Happy Veterans Day!

Today is Veterans Day. It is a day to honor all those who have served in the armed forces. We have a lot of family who have served- both of Jim’s grandfathers, both of my brothers, and various cousins and uncles. I have pictured a few of them here. Thanks you to all who have served and continue to serve. Happy Veterans Day!

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Nineteen years ago today, Jim and I tied the knot. It does not seem that long ago, but we have 2 teenagers to show the passage of time. Jim, it has been a great run so far. I love you with all my heart and love the life we share together. I look forward to many more years of laughter and fun.

Happy Memorial Day

Today we remember all of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives fighting for our country. Memorial Day started as a day to remember those who were killed in the Civil War and expanded to include those killed in all American wars after World War I. Memorial Day was declared a national holiday in 1971. In the year 2000, Congress passed ‘The National Moment of Remembrance Act’. This act encourages all Americans to pause for a moment of reflection, to remember and honor those who have died in service to this country, at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day.

Old Hurley Burial Ground

Here are some photos of the Old Hurley Burial Ground in Hurley, NY. Hurley was settled by the Dutch prior to 1660. The burial ground contains many field stones. Many of them have no inscriptions and some are inscribed in the Dutch language. The earliest decipherable stone is 1715. This burial ground is one of the oldest in Ulster County and is in good condition. The stones are fascinating to look at and a great recording of history.
