Thanksvember, Day 8

Today, on what will be a day for the history books, I am thankful for the right to vote. As a woman, I need to thank the women who fought for women’s suffrage such as Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucy Stone. It was these women and countless others who worked tirelessly until the Nineteenth Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution on August 26, 1920. Last week we held a mock election at Girl Scouts. The high school girls ran the election for the younger girls. Two things struck me that night; 1) this election’s negativity has even penetrated the lives of 6 year olds (shame on us) and 2) the high school girls had some very keen observations about the election and I am proud that they will be voting in the next presidential election. Today I will go cast my vote proudly. I am also proud that our son, who just turned 18, is exercising his right to vote. Thank you to all those people who helped get us the right to vote.
