This week takes us back to June 2004. We were visiting Great Grandma and Grandpa in Tonawanda, NY to celebrate Matilda and Great Grandpa’s birthdays. Matilda was turning 2 and Great Grandpa was turning 80. Great Grandpa requested an ice cream cake (he said he had never had an ice cream cake for his birthday) so Jim and Paxton went to the store for the cake and lots of candles. They then put 80 candles on one half and 2 candles on the other half. The smoke alarms were going off and the cake ended up having a nice wax coating on one half, but everyone enjoyed the ‘fire cake’. The ‘fire cake’ has become one of our most treasured memories of Great Grandpa and a great story to remember for his birthday.
