Throwback Thursday

This week we go back to Thursday, October 15, 1998. It was a cool, crisp Autumn day. My first memory of that day was at 4 in the morning and I was thinking, “Oh crap! I think my water just broke”. I then calmly (okay, I am sure I was not calm at all) called the midwife, woke Jim (who had only gone to bed 2 or 3 hours earlier) and took a shower before we headed to the hospital. We arrived there at about 7 a.m., and a mere 13 hours later, Paxton was born. That moment was both one of the happiest and one of the scariest moments of my life. I had pre-eclampsia and, due to the medication I was given for it, Paxton was born suppressed. He was immediately taken to the NICU and needed a breathing tube for his first few hours. Thanks to modern medicine and some wonderful nurses and doctors, we both came out of the whole experience unscathed. I did not meet Paxton until the next morning so those are the photos shown here. It is hard to believe that day was 17 years ago and that sweet baby boy is now a smart, creative and witty young man who I am so very proud to call my son. Happy Birthday Paxton!
